Tricot Permeate Spacer Fabric

for Reverse Osmosis Membranes

Precision-knitted polyester fabric for stable permeate flow and membrane support

Gepco Inc.

What It Is

Our Tricot Permeate Spacer Fabric is a precision-knitted polyester fabric designed for use inside spiral-wound
reverse osmosis (RO) membrane elements. Positioned between membrane layers, it helps keep the permeate
channel open under operating pressure.

What It Does

  • Maintains a consistent permeate flow channel
  • Supports membrane layers under operating pressure
  • Provides a controlled path for purified water to flow toward the central collection tube
  • Helps maintain dimensional stability and uniform spacing inside the RO element

No Epoxy Bonding

The spacer fabric combines a knitted polyester structure with low-melting PET thermal bonding technology, eliminating the need for conventional epoxy bonding.

Low-Melting PET Filament (LMF)

A regular polyester core is surrounded by a low-melting polyester sheath for thermal bonding and shape retention.

Low-Melting PET Filament Technology

During heat treatment, the low-melting sheath softens and bonds neighboring filaments together, while the regular
PET core retains the basic fiber structure. Fusion occurs at approximately 180 C.

Key Advantages

  • Thermal bonding without epoxy-based chemical adhesive
  • Shape retention after heat fixation

Inside a Spiral-Wound RO Element

The spacer fabric maintains separation between membrane layers and allows permeate water to travel toward the central collection tube.
